Lichen 

a small body of material research

I have always been drawn to lichen — the small, overlooked worlds that grow quietly on rocks, trees and other surfaces. Their unexpected colours, layered textures and organic patterns invite closer observation.

This series began with the botanical colour palettes found in lichen: muted greens, earthy tones and subtle variations created by their relationship with light, moisture and their surroundings. As the weaving process unfolded, the works moved beyond direct observation and became intuitive explorations of colour, texture and material.

Using natural fibres such as wool, cotton and silk, I created layered surfaces that echo the complexity of organic growth. The woven structures become less a representation of lichen itself and more an interpretation of the quiet rhythms, contrasts and connections found within the natural world.
